Taken in the late autumn sunshine the refurbished Gantock Crescent presents a bright and welcoming front to passers-by on the Edinburgh Road.
Sadie Morrison
Sadie and Willie Morrison were brought up in Cranhill and spent a big part of their married life in the scheme. Through their grandchildren they still have close contacts with Cranhill.
My husband and I both were brought up in Cranhill from 1952 at the age of 8 - me in Bellrock Street and him in Langness Road. We met in the Tenants’ Association Hall (known as The Shak), on a Sunday night.
We were 16 then and Rock n’ Roll was at its height
There was dancing to the Bellrocks group.
A lot of young people met their future husbands and wives there.
We married in 1965 and left Cranhill for a short time to go to Dennistoun.
We came back to Cranhill in 1970 - to Monach Road. By then we had two daughters and a son. They all went to Milncroft Primary and Cranhill Secondary.
We lived at Monach Road till 1998 and now live in Carntyne - not far away.
Our grandchildren go to Cranhill Primary and Bellrock Nursery so we are always still in the area.
We made lots of friends over the years. Its great to see the changes in the new houses - though it’s just a pity that we didn’t get one.
