Putting Cranhill on the Map
On Saturday September 17th, as part of the now annual Glasgow ‘Doors Open’ weekend, Cranhill welcomed several groups of eager visitors who had boarded the shuttle bus at Provan Hall to take the ‘Discover Festival Tour’.
The Discover tours provide a unique opportunity to showcase snippets of the ever-changing and often untold story of the East End and its people.
Staff and volunteers of Cranhill’s Development Trust (*), which celebrated its 10th Anniversary this year, mounted an art and craft exhibition and offered for sale sets of postcards - based on their own photographic efforts.
The cafe was open to offer all of the ‘tourists’ a well-appreciated cup of tea.
A DVD, specially made for the occasion, was well-received. It charted Cranhill’s story from the early 1950s to the present day. Visitors were also intrigued by a demonstration of the challenges of establishing a community garden at what was once the bottom of the ‘Sugarolly Mountains’.
