Cranhill Gala Day 2010
The 2010 annual Gala Day was held in Cranhill Park on Sunday 8th August. The fun day drew a large crowd and was universally deemed to be a great success. The good turnout was due to good planning and publicity, the wide range of events and activities which had been arranged, and the sunny weather.
The attached photograph was taken by Chris Nicoletti of the Cranhill Arts Project. Cranhill Arts was just one of the many groups which took part. Others included the Cranhill Community Project, Gladiators, Playbusters, GHA (FACT), Thenew Housing Association and Silver Deal. Glasgow East Community Planning undertook the necessary planning and logistics.
In association with Playbusters, 'Cranhill Matters' ran a Hula Hoop Competition - with Gala Day souvenir mugs as prizes. The picture below shows Third Prize Winner, Stephanie Curran in action. Her time was just over 10 minutes. She would have had to keep going for a further 28 minutes to have taken the overall lead. The competition was run by 'The Hannan Twins' (Janice (now Black) and Liz (now Bowers). (More information about the Hannans in the photo gallery).
