Cranhill Community Garden Official Opening

Cranhill Community Project launched its community garden on Wednesday 23 June 2010. Helped by Glasgow City Council Land and Environmental Services apprentices, Cranhill community garden volunteers planted a wide range of vegetables in raised beds in their wheelchair accessible garden behind Cranhill Parish Church. Some of the fresh produce is destined for use in the Community Cafe.

The launch was well-attended, allowing members of the wider community to meet the gardening group and talk with the young GCC apprentices, whilst Starbucks served complimentary fair trade coffee.

Pupils from St Maria Goretti and Cranhill Primary schools spent the morning with Glasgow Community Safety Services cleaning up the Cranhill area by picking up litter. In the afternoon they attended the launch event and participated in garden art activities.

Cranhill Green Team also launched its new environmental project set up to help local people reduce their carbon emissions and save money on fuel bills. Funded through the Climate Challenge Fund this project will give residents energy saving advice and practical energy saving promotions. .
