Burns fur bairns, Burns fur big bairns, Burns fur a’body!

Cranhill’s over 50s were afforded a rare treat at lunchtime on the 25th of January. They celebrated the Bard’s birthday in fine style, and without traditional speeches or ceremony.

The poet’s words, music and poems were brought to life by master story-teller and performer, Andy Cannon (now artist in residence at Platform), and accomplished cellist Wendy Wetherby.

Fortunately, one aspect of a more traditional Burns celebration was not ignored - the welcome and warming meal of soup, haggis, neeps and tatties.

The show included such Burns classics as ‘To a Mouse’, ‘Holy Willie’s Prayer’, a masterly re-telling of the spooky, scary ‘Tam O Shanter’ and of course many well-kent songs and tunes along the way.

Participants joined Andy and Wendy in a spirited Auld Lang Syne at the event’s conclusion and warmly supported Andy’s vote of thanks to all those who had contributed to its success. Not least of all, Debbie and her catering team.

** Andy and Wendy’s performance was a riveting preview of ‘Oor Rabbie’ which can be experienced at The Bridge, Westerhouse Road on Saturday 29th January at 1.00 pm.
